DJI officially releases DJI Air 3S, the flagship dual-camera travel drone that captures day and night scenery

Oct 15, 2024

(October 15, 2024, Shenzhen) DJI officially released the new dual-camera flagship travel photography drone DJI Air 3S, equipped with a number of advanced technologies to show the scenery of day and night. Air 3S is equipped with a one-inch main camera and a 70 mm medium-telephoto camera, both with a dynamic range of up to 14 stops1, which can capture stunning scenery and people; both cameras support the new free panoramic photo function, and the shooting range can be customized. The newly unveiled night scene-level omnidirectional active obstacle avoidance1 and the new generation of intelligent return make shooting safer. Whether it is the beautiful scenery of the journey or your wonderful moments, it can perfectly present them.

"Last year, we launched two blockbuster products, Mavic 3 Pro and Air 3, which led aerial photography into the era of multi-focal lengths, greatly improved creative efficiency, enriched artistic creation methods, and effectively enhanced the sense of aerial storytelling." Zhang Xiaonan, senior strategic director and spokesperson of DJI, said: "Today, we officially launched the new dual-camera flagship travel photography drone Air 3S equipped with many cutting-edge technologies, which can not only record the scenery along the way day and night, but also make the protagonist in the scenery the focus of the picture. Air 3S has not only achieved a comprehensive upgrade in imaging, but also as the first consumer-grade drone equipped with forward-facing laser radar technology, it can achieve night-level omnidirectional active obstacle avoidance and a new generation of intelligent return function, escorting a smooth flight; the new free panorama function also easily reflects a wide perspective and rich details. We hope that for countless drone enthusiasts, aerial photography is no longer a simple "take a picture", but a discovery, focus, storytelling, and creation. Through the lens of Air 3S, let your journey "show the scenery of day and night". ”

One-inch main camera in place, comprehensive image upgrade

DJI Air 3S's dual-camera imaging system consists of a one-inch main camera and a 1/1.3-inch medium-telephoto camera. The main camera uses a 50-megapixel one-inch image sensor and a 24 mm lens, 3.2μm large pixels1, f/1.8 aperture, supports 4K/60fps HDR and 4K/120fps video recording1 and 10-bit D-Log M color. The larger photosensitive area, combined with the new image processing platform and intelligent algorithms, can not only present the vast scenery more stunningly, but also retain more details in low-light environments, and shoot purer sunsets and nighttime landscapes.

The mid-telephoto camera uses a 48-megapixel 1/1.3-inch CMOS and a 70 mm lens, a 2.4μm large pixel 1, and an f/2.8 aperture. It can compress the depth of field to highlight the subject in scenes such as portraits and car shots, making the image more textured. Like the main camera, it supports the same 4K/60fps HDR and 4K/120fps video recording1 and 10-bit D-Log M color, which can present a consistent image style and make post-production more efficient. The 70 mm lens brings 3x optical zoom, which can not only capture a unique sense of depth, but also highlight the subject. With surround camera movement and high frame rate 4K video specifications, you can easily capture expressive portrait close-ups.

Thanks to the new image processing platform, the image quality of dual cameras has been greatly upgraded. DJI Air 3S dual-camera supports H.265 encoding for recording 10-bit videos in normal color mode for the first time, bringing delicate color performance and a larger color grading space. The ISO limit is also increased to 12800; D-Log M and HLG color modes The ISO limit is increased to 3200, and the higher brightness helps to present more details in city night scene shots.

In addition, the main camera and the medium and telephoto cameras all support the new free panorama function. You can select the subject you want to shoot and customize the panoramic picture by taking multiple photos. The wide-angle camera has a wider field of view and is more efficient when taking panoramic photos; the medium- and long-focus cameras can significantly increase the sense of spatial compression, with both the broad perspective created by multiple photos and the rich details captured by taking advantage of the focal length. Compared to its predecessor, DJI Air 3, Air 3S uses a more advanced video encoding compression algorithm that can reduce video file size by more than 30% while maintaining the same excellent image quality, saving valuable storage space for creation. The DJI Air 3S also has all the intelligent creative features that have been widely acclaimed in the past, such as 2.7K vertical shooting, master lens, one-click short film, time-lapse photography, etc.

The intersection of multiple advanced technologies allows you to create at night without any hindrance

Air 3S not only supports APAS advanced assisted flight function, but is also DJI's first drone equipped with forward-facing LiDAR. With the downward-looking infrared ToF sensor and three pairs of visual sensors at the head, tail and bottom of the fuselage, it can achieve night-level omnidirectional active obstacle avoidance1, actively identify and avoid obstacles such as buildings on the flight and return paths, and provide strong safety protection for night scene shooting, making creation more worry-free and efficient.

Air 3S is equipped with a new generation of advanced intelligent return, making return safer. Thanks to visual real-time positioning and map building technology, Air 3S can memorize the flight route in an environment with good lighting conditions, and can return safely even if it takes off in a scene without satellite signal such as a balcony1. At the same time, with the forward-looking laser radar, Air 3S can sense obstacles such as tall buildings and trees and go around them upwards even when returning in a dark environment1.
In addition to the existing four directions of front, back, left and right, the flight auxiliary image function of Air 3S has added auxiliary images in the downward direction to help you have a more comprehensive understanding of the surrounding flight environment. In addition, Air 3S also supports advanced functions such as waypoint flight and cruise control, which can plan routes and shooting actions in advance, and quickly lock the stick amount to help creativity.

Intelligent follow, ultra-long battery life, the truth is in the details

Air 3S supports omnidirectional intelligent follow function, which can not only stably follow the target, but also automatically plan the shooting path according to the flight environment, and intelligently adjust the picture composition. During the following process, the Air 3S can still stably follow the subject even if the lower body is partially obscured in the bushes or on the bridge. The new subject follow focus function allows for fast, continuous and accurate focus even if the subject is not in the center of the picture.
Ultra-long battery life and high-quality image transmission make shooting more enjoyable. The flight time of the Air 3S can reach up to 45 minutes1. The charging butler supports PD fast charging and power collection functions, which can transfer the remaining power of multiple batteries to the battery with the highest remaining power1. DJI O4 image transmission can achieve up to 20 kilometers of long-distance transmission, 1080p/60fps image transmission, and for the first time supports 10-bit image transmission1, with smooth pictures and moving colors; transmission stability is also further improved, the control response is more sensitive, and creation is more handy.

DJI's second-generation enhanced image transmission module1 can be directly inserted into the Air 3S, and can be installed in an integrated manner without the need for additional kits. When the Air 3S's O4 image transmission signal is blocked or interfered with, you can still use the 4G network to achieve stable image transmission to control the aircraft, reducing the chance of disconnection and making flight safer.
The details are also clear. The Air 3S has 42GB of storage space and a shutdown quick transfer function. After shooting, you don't need to press the button to restart the phone after shutting down.1 You can directly connect to the phone to transfer materials at high speed. There is also a USB disk mode, which also does not require powering on, and you can directly transfer materials to the computer via a data cable.
